31 She gives him a second chance.32 He gives the answer she wants to hear, but he's humoring her. 33 That's a pretty barren existence. What does she want? 36 Skin? What's she thinking about? 37 This time he brings up the liquor. Why? 39 Is this movement of the curtain a reminder of their disappointment about the last drink, the anis advertised on the curtain? Or maybe a foreshadowing of one of his favorite phrases from the discussion coming up about the "operation"? 40-41 They're both agreeing with each other for a safe conversation.
42.1 Jig? What an odd name! as in "The jig is
up"? But that means the situation is hopeless, like when the bad guys in the
1930s movies are cornered by the police. 44 "Let the air in"? Tracheotomy? No way, she's not choking. Let air in where? 46 She needs an operation? to let air in? She's not breathing hard, so she probably doesn't have a blocked lung. Natural? 47.1 After? Do about what? 49 She has her doubts about him. Is she financially dependent on this guy? |
