Brainstorming One Course Concept

1-5-99: To start off a class, bring a one-page handout that consists of one major concept (term) from recent reading and in-class work typed vertically down the center of the page.  Hand out the page, asking students to work in small groups to use each letter of the term by writing related concepts horizontally across the word.  To be merciful, the vertical letters may fall anywhere in the crossing terms. Groups should report to the class with some discussion.
