Multiple Intelligences

1. What is the best idea you heard at this event?
-Students learn the course material in different ways, depending on the form
of intelligence.
-how to integrate several methods of learning
-how to alter
lesson plans for a variety of intelligences
-Encourage students to learn with different sensory or multiple intelligences.
-multiple options as homework topic
-We are all smart!
-study tips for specific learning styles
-We are intelligent in different ways.
-using
background music and where to find it
-to examine alternative possibilities for delivering instruction
-to challenge people to leave their comfort zone
-the 8 categories of intelligences
-learning the characteristics of the different intelligences
-alternative teaching styles in the classroom
-applying different techniques for different students
3. Why would you recommend this event to a colleague if it were repeated (or
not)?
-I believe it is important to teach in a variety of modes, and we may not
always be aware of these teaching possibilities.
-Because we have students coming from many backgrounds and culture, we must,
as teachers emphasize that their strengths are important and should be
identified
-This event is really interesting and presents an interesting and
entertaining way to help students learn in all intelligences.
5. How would you apply to your own teaching at least one of the ideas you
heard today?
-Try to address all styles of learning.
-Compile a notebook of history jokes!
-diagrams, video, art
-I may have my students take the "test" we took during the workshop.
-I include many of them already, may start using music for class entries.
-In my English class which is Basic English and beginning writing, maybe I’ll
try having students to write a rap story about the parts of speech.
-Allow diagrams, flow charts in lieu of (as well as) narrative responses.
-Use music at the beginning and ending of class in addition to the breaks.
-I would try to use magnetic poetry in the poetry portion of my literature
class.
-Provide different classroom/lab techniques that appeal to more forms of
intelligences. Emphasize that students try different study skills to see which
one works best for them.
-I would give the survey of learning styles in the beginning of the semester to try and analyze my students.
-For my "chatty" class, use verbal/linguistic and interpersonal
[methods] to [take advantage of] what is currently an irritation for me.
-Use more varieties, especially kinesthetic.
-Use more visuals and colors to aid memory.
-Do more with paraphrasing.
